For this project I wanted to do something themed like adventure time again like I did with my key chain. I decided that I wanted to take a sword that the main character used and make a decal of it.
First I opened inventor and pulled a resource image into the document to recreate it. I started with making a black base so that everything will have a black edge so it looks more like a cartoon's style.
Then after that I layered on top of it another part of the actual blade in which I made it yellow because that was the color of the sword. Once I was done creating the shape I dragged it away. This is because in the cartoon the sword has scratches in it so I used the line tool to make little hash marks and then put them on top of the yellow bits of the sword and cut them out. With the black background this will make it appear as scratches on the blade.
Afterwards I had to add the strips of cloth to the handle so I used the pen tool again to create the little layers of polygons.
Then I was able to make the tiny little jewel that is at the base of the hilt.
Then I was able to take it down to the vinyl cutter. First I turned on the vinyl cutter and loaded the vinyl, then I opened my file on the computer.
I separated each color into its own individual art board, and I cut each color one by one using the cut plot option in the file menu. Then I scrubbed each piece and put them all on transfer paper. This is all the process we followed for the notebook name decal.
Then I started to apply them to my notebook.
Then I started to apply them to my notebook.
Then I was done and I had my decal. In this individual vinyl rotation I learned how to use illustrator because it is a software I was unfamiliar with, however I was able to draw some similarities between it and Photoshop. Another thing I learned was that instead of cutting each piece to its specific spot I should make bigger pieces and layer them so I don't get any accidental white space. I can see many applications for the vinyl cutter, in fact I came in on my own time to make a decal for my father because he wanted one of a David Bowie album cover. This one didn't have layer but it was important to make sure that every layer was traced which goes for all vinyl cuts.
